Best Chicken Wings in Austin (2026): The Complete Guide
Where to find the best wings across Austin and Central Texas — 123 spots, by neighborhood and style, with a link to every one.
Updated 2026-06-06 · By the Austin Chicken Wing Festival team
Austin doesn't have one wing style — it has all of them. This guide, maintained by the team behind the Austin Chicken Wing Festival, is a working directory of wing spots across the Austin metro and Central Texas, from South Lamar food trucks to East Austin dive bars, Korean fried chicken counters, Michelin-starred barbecue joints running weekly wing specials, and full-on sports bars with thirty sauces on the board. Our goal is simple: link out to every legitimate spot so you can find your wings, wherever you are in the region.
The coverage area runs well beyond the city limits. Alongside Austin proper, you'll find spots in Round Rock, Cedar Park, Leander, Pflugerville, Georgetown, Hutto, Buda, Kyle, San Marcos, Lakeway, Bee Cave, and up into Killeen and Harker Heights. Some are decades-old institutions like The Tavern, Green Mesquite (an Austin staple since 1988), and Pluckers, the Austin-born sports-bar chain. Others are newer arrivals and trucks earning national attention — Lao'd Bar landed on the 2025 New York Times Top 50 list for its caramel-fish-sauce wings.
We don't publish star ratings or a ranked "best of" — taste is yours to settle, ideally one order at a time. What we do is keep the details honest and current: the style of wing, the neighborhood, and a direct link to each spot's own website or Instagram so you can check hours and menus yourself. If a place doesn't have a confirmed official site, we point you to its verified social instead rather than guess. Use the style guide below to figure out what you're craving, then dig into the FAQs for picks by neighborhood and flavor.
Austin Wing Styles, Explained
Classic Buffalo
The original: bone-in wings tossed in Frank's RedHot and butter, served with blue cheese and celery. Round Rock's Anchor Bar is the Texas outpost of the Buffalo, NY institution that invented the wing; Home Slice, Casino El Camino, Billy's on Burnet, and Nickel City's Delray Cafe all run the Western-New-York classic.
Nashville Hot
Cayenne-painted fried chicken with graduated heat levels, usually on Texas toast with pickles. Tumble 22 ('tumbled 22 times'), Hattie B's, Trailer Birds, Dang Hot 89, and Hangry Joe's (Kyle and San Marcos) cover the spectrum from mild to genuinely punishing.
Korean Fried Chicken
Double-fried for a thin, glassy, ultra-crackly crust, then glazed — soy garlic, sweet-and-spicy, gangnam, or honey. Hi Wings, bb.q Chicken, Kochu, Donkey Mo's, Left Wing Bar (on the Drag), and Oseyo lead the KFC and chimaek scene; many pair the chicken with beer or karaoke.
Smoked & Texas BBQ Wings
Oak- or mesquite-smoked, often flash-fried after for crispy skin, and sauced in Alabama white, honey BBQ, or hot honey. Stiles Switch, CM Smokehouse, Loro (the Uchi x Franklin BBQ concept), Green Mesquite, and Michelin-starred LeRoy and Lewis (its rotating 'Austin hot' wing) are the standouts.
Southeast Asian / Fish-Sauce Caramel
Austin's signature modern wing: crispy birds lacquered in caramelized fish sauce, sometimes with crab fat, fried garlic, herbs, and pickled chilies. Lao'd Bar (2025 NYT Top 50), Mam Mam, Pho Phong Luu, Le Bleu, and The Peached Tortilla define the category.
Lemon Pepper & Dry Rubs
Citrusy, peppery, no-sauce-needed seasoning — the quiet regional default. The Potluck's Loose Cannon lemon pepper is a cult pick, and nearly every sports bar from Deckhand Oyster Bar to Big Sharks in Killeen runs a strong lemon-pepper option.
Lollipop / French-Cut
Drumettes frenched into neat 'lollipops' and fried crispy for easy, sauce-dippable eating. Tommy Want Wingy built a food-truck following on these, with sauces like Ranch on Fire and sweet chili.
Halal
Halal-sourced wings, often with Mediterranean or pan-Asian spicing. Halal Wings in Mueller does fried wings with global sauce blends; BussinBuns runs halal Nashville-style; Halal Wing Kingz is a catering-focused mobile option.
Sports-Bar Wings & Dollar Nights
Jumbo wings, dozens of sauces, and cheap wing specials for game day. Pluckers, COVER 3, and Third Base load up the sauce board; Thunder Chief, The Jackalope (95-cent Tuesdays), Green Mesquite ($1 happy hour), and Lavaca Street Bar ($1 specials) are where to chase deals.
