7 Awesome Wing Spots in Austin You Should Try

We keep a directory of more than a hundred wing spots around Austin and Central Texas, which is genuinely useful and genuinely overwhelming. So this is the short version. Seven places, no filler, each one somewhere we would send a friend who asked the question at four in the afternoon on a Friday.

Four of them earned their spot the hard way, in front of a room full of ticket holders with voting cards at the 2025 Austin Chicken Wing Festival. The other three are simply places this city sends people when they ask where the wings are.

The seven

1. 1. Ruthie's Food Trailer

   Manchaca / far South Austin

   Festival pedigree: Won 1st place in both Judges' Choice and People's Choice at the 2025 festival, the only vendor to take first on both boards.

   Wings by the ten or the fifteen out of a trailer at Way South Food Park on Old San Antonio Road, in flavors like Mango Habanero and hot honey lemon pepper, alongside the Cajun and Southern plates the trailer is built around. It is a drive from central Austin. It is worth the drive.

2. 2. The Gossip Shack

   Pflugerville & North Austin

   Festival pedigree: Took 3rd in both Judges' Choice and People's Choice in 2025.

   A dedicated wing shop on Grand Avenue Parkway feeding Pflugerville, Round Rock and North Austin since 2018. Buffalo, Buffalo Lemon Pepper, Buffalo Parmesan, Cajun, Cajun Parmesan, Bustdown, CPR. They sell wings by the ten, the twenty, the fifty and the hundred, which tells you exactly who they are. Go with a group and order across the board.

3. 3. Big Girl on Wheels

   Pflugerville (food truck)

   Festival pedigree: Finished 2nd in People's Choice in 2025.

   A truck on Spring Hill Lane with an inventive streak. Regulars rave about a Strawberry Hot and a Honey Butter Crack, sitting alongside tacos and seasoned fries. There is no website, so check their Instagram before you go. A truck keeps its own hours.

4. 4. Oasis Texas Brewing Co.

   Lake Travis / West Austin

   Festival pedigree: Finished 2nd in Judges' Choice in 2025.

   Brined wings and craft beer with the best view on this list, from Buffalo Mild through Ghost Agave Buffalo, plus Lemon Pepper Dry Rub, Garlic Parmesan Herb, Hawaiian BBQ and Pineapple Habanero. Time it for sunset over Lake Travis and it stops being a meal and starts being a plan. They describe themselves as a weather-permitting business, so check before you drive out.

5. 5. Pluckers Wing Bar

   Multiple Austin-area locations

   Founded in Austin in 1995, now eight locations around the metro, wings by the five, ten or fifteen. The sauce board runs from Honey BBQ all the way out to Vampire Killer and Fire in the Hole. It is the answer when a group of six cannot agree on anything, and there is no shame in that.

6. 6. Haymaker

   Manor Road, East Austin

   Half a pound of jumbo wings, fried and tossed in Mild Buffalo, Hot Chipotle, Garlic Parmesan, Carolina Gold BBQ, Lemon Pepper or Tangy Teriyaki. Neighborhood energy rather than a mega-screen cathedral, and the Carolina Gold is the one to order first.

7. 7. Hattie B's Hot Chicken

   South Lamar & Domain Northside

   Jumbo Nashville hot wings where you pick the heat level, which is the whole exercise. Be honest with yourself at the counter. The step below the one your ego wants is usually the right call.

What the 2025 trophies actually told us

Last year the festival ran two separate boards. A judging panel scored blind, and every ticket holder got a People's Choice voting card. The interesting part is how much the two agreed. Ruthie's took first on both. The Gossip Shack took third on both. Oasis Texas Brewing took second with the judges, and Big Girl on Wheels took second with the crowd.

Two trailers and a brewery finishing that high says something about where the good wings in this town actually are. It is not the room with the tablecloths. Our 2025 recap has the full board and the photos.

One thing we still cannot tell you is which specific flavor won, because the 2025 judging was blind and the judges never knew what they were scoring. We are asking the vendors. When we have answers, they go on the recap page.

Four more that nearly made it

Seven is an arbitrary number and cutting the list hurt. These four are all worth your Saturday.

• Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken · Hand-battered wing plates downtown on San Jacinto, fried in peanut oil on a family recipe that goes back sixty years.
• Vincent's Sports Pub · Game Day Wings on Brodie Lane, six or twelve, in Lemon Pepper and Spicy Cajun dry rubs or Buffalo, Honey Habanero, Garlic Parmesan and Gochujang.
• Bouldin Acres · Six smoked wings in Buffalo, BBQ, White BBQ, Lemon Pepper, Sweet Chili Sriracha or Mango Habanero, on the Bouldin Creek corner of South Lamar.
• Green Mesquite BBQ · Smoked Buffalo wings on Barton Springs Road, an Austin staple since 1988, with a $1 wing happy hour on weekdays.

How to eat your way through this list

Do not do it in one day. We have watched people try. Two stops is a good night. Three is a commitment. Four is a story you tell later with some regret in it.

Split orders. Six wings between two people at three places beats a dozen at one. The entire point of a list like this is comparison, and you cannot compare anything once you are full.

Call the trucks first. Trailers move, sell out, and close for a week in August. Two of the best things on this list come out of a window, and a window is not a dining room.

Order one flavor you would not normally order. Strawberry Hot sounds like a dare until you try it. That instinct is exactly what a wing festival is for.

The shortcut: November 7

Working through a list like this properly takes a month of Fridays. The Austin Chicken Wing Festival compresses it into an afternoon. On Saturday, November 7, 2026, the Travis County Expo Center fills up with Austin wing makers, and your ticket covers all you can eat plus a People's Choice voting card that decides who takes a trophy home this year.

The 2026 vendor roster is still being finalized, so we are not naming names yet. The music is confirmed: Lew Sid, Anxious at the Disco, DJ Hellayella and DJ Slyce. Lew Sid wrote “Fried Rice,” a hit song about wings, and is playing the festival that inspired it, which is about as on-brand as this event gets.

There is also a petting zoo, a Kid Zone, a local makers market, a full bar, and a free wing tattoo voucher with every adult ticket. Permanent. We are not joking about that one.
